'1. What is sort? Why is diversity valued?\r\n variety is the human attributes that be different from your own and different from free radicals to which you belong. renewal is broken into two categories: visible and invisible. megascopic diversity includes attributes like age, race, ethinicity, gender, etcetera and camouflaged diversity ar attributes like contribute experience, marital status, p atomic number 18ntal status, income, religious beliefs, etc. Diversity is valued because once you trick recognize some or whole of the diverseness in a person, you bottom of the inning then recognize how unique they are. (â€Å"What Is Diversity? It’S More Than Race Or sexual activity †University Of …”, 2002)\r\n2. What is ethnocentrism? In what ways croup ethnocentrism be detrimental to a ball club? Enthnocentrism is the belief in the inherent high quality of one’s own social conference or goal. (dictionary.com, 2013) Ethnocentrism can be d etrimental because judegment is being passed on some some other culture based on that on individual’s values or beliefs, thinking they are more higher-ranking or better without possibly having whatever knowledge of that culture and no proclivity to learn rough it.\r\n3. Define expatriation and immigration.\r\nEmigration is to leave a demesne to rangetle in another. Immigration is oming into a new country as a permanent resident. These choices are not evermore vonluntary but can come from affair or war. Involuntary migration is not as common anymore but ofttimes of the past migrations were involuntary. Emigration and immigration both contribute to minorities. (Schaefer, Chapter 1, 2012)\r\n4. What are some of the ways groups of people are identified? racial groups:\r\na group that is socially set unconnected because of obvious physical differences. ethnic groups: a group set apart from others because of its national origin or classifiable cultural patterns. Relig ious groups: a group that is associated with a religion other than the controlling faith. Gender groups: a group where males are the social absolute majority ( overriding) and females, although larger in population, are the social nonage. Other groups: age, check status, physical appearance, and sexual orientation. (Schaefer, Chapter 1, 2012)\r\n5. Why do people label and group other people?\r\nPeople label and group others because they are either dominant or want to be the dominant. Being the dominant means having the power over others or things and since the United States is a democracy, majorit rules, so the majority has the power. The minority group then has lesser chances of ruling and life’s opportunites are express mail. (Schaefer, Chapter 1, 2012)\r\n6. Define culture. Is culture limited to racial and ethnic backgrounds? Explain. Culture is the behaviors and belief characterstics of a particular social, ethnic, or age group. (dictionary.com, 2013) This translatio n I found is vague in my opinion because culture can be included in genders, sexual orientations, nationalities, and more. stock-still with that the definition of culture is not limited to racial and ethnic backgrounds. Since culture is a behavior and/or belief I really think just about anyone in any kind of minority has these that are separate from others.\r\nReferences\r\nWhat is Diversity?
